Copper weakens over 1 per cent on global cues

NEW DELHI, Sept 15:  Copper prices fell 1.06 per cent to Rs 419.55 per kg in futures market today as speculators trimmed positions amid a weak trend in global markets.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in November traded lower by Rs 4.50, or 1.06 per cent, to Rs 419.55 per kg in a business turnover of 417 lots.
Market analysts said weak trend in base metals overseas, after factory and retail-sales data signalled further slowing in China, the world’s biggest user, mainly influenced copper prices at futures trade here.
Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months retreated 0.8 per cent to USD 6,780.75 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange, the lowest intra-day price since September 11.
In Shanghai, the metal for delivery in November fell 0.8 per cent to 48,200 yuan (USD 7,852) a tonne. (PTI)
