Copper futures rise on global cues, spot demand

NEW DELHI, June 3:  Buoyed by a firm global trend, copper prices rose Rs 1.50 to Rs 393.50 per kg in futures trade today as traders enlarged positions.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in far-month August traded higher by Rs 1.50, or 0.38 per cent, to Rs 393.50 per kg in a business turnover of six lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in June edged up by Rs 1.35, or 0.35 per cent, to Rs 388.50 per kg in 531 lots.
Analysts said a firming trend in base metals at the London Metal Exchange (LME) and rising physical demand at domestic spot markets influenced copper futures here.
Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months climbed 0.3 per cent to USD 6,059.50 per tonne at the LME, while at Shanghai exchange, the metal for August advanced 0.30 per cent to 43,830 yuan (USD 7,072) per tonne. (PTI)
