JAMMU, Mar 19: J&K Contractors Association and PWD (R&B) Contractors Association demanded introduction of e-tendering in Rural Development Department (RDD).
Addressing a joint press conference, Balvinder Singh, General Secretary, J&K Contractors Association and Narinder Gupta, President PWD (R&B) Contractors Association have appealed to the Governor N N Vohra to direct Commissioner Secretary of RDD to introduce e-tendering in the department immediately.
Singh informed that RDD has been listed as the third corrupt department amongst the top ten corrupt departments as per the State Vigilance report published on June 2015 with 1025 complaints and 10 FIRs.
Singh said that after the introduction of e-tendering in PWD and almost all other departments the most of the politician will stop spending their CDF through these departments.
Singh and Narinder Gupta alleged that large number of Sarpanchs, Panchs and some blue eyed boys on behalf of the politicians have started their own tile manufacturing units and are producing sub-standard tiles as none of the monitoring department including the Additional DDC or State Vigilance Department ever bothered to check the quality of the works being done in the RDD.
They further said that after the introduction of e-tendering in the PWD, crores of State exchequer have been saved, but the RDD is deceiving the State exchequer in two ways one by getting the works executed at the much higher cost as compared to other departments including the PWD and secondly by not deducting the service tax of 12.60 per cent resulting into loss to the State exchequer of more than Rs 100 crore annually.
Among others present were Manmohan Singh, Jatinder Singh, Vice Chairman Jammu Cantonment, Sharanjit Singh, Baldev Singh Choudhary, Sudesh Gupta, Rohit Khajuria, Jasbir Singh, etc.
