NEW DELHI : Congress today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to uphold the constitutional oath and order a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the sudden reversal of stance that has led to exoneration of six accused, including Sadhvi Pragya in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, besides completely diluting the case against remaining accused on account of withdrawal of charges under MCOCA and other offences.
Addressing mediapersons, Congress spokesperson, Anand Sharma said,” Doubts which existed an year ago about the Malegaon blast case still persist. Then the public prosecutor Rohini Salian had expressed apprehensions about the case being deliberately slowed down and now too she has said she was forced to go soft in the case. The government is trying to shield the guilty in the case.
Clean chits have been given to ABVP leader, Sadhvi Pragya and five others in the 2008 Malegaon blast case by the Union government. ” Mr Sharma said ,’ NIA has now become ‘Namo Investigation Agency’ being misused for the sole purpose of giving ‘clean chits’ to people affiliated to RSS-BJP by hook or crook.
The allegations made in the initial stage of the case against the accused were levelled against the wrong persons and wrong people went to jail.And now also, wrong people have been exonerated. ” The Congress also alleged that ,” this government is constantly interfering in the working of the agencies and institutions. It is coming in the way of working of investigating agency, prosecuting arm, judiciary and these three wings do not interfere in each other’s functioning.
The present DIG was given extension in the case. The government took all papers and documents related to the case in its custody. Entire charge sheet of NIA filed in the case appears to be aimed at decimating and demolishing the meticulous investigation by Mumbai ATS headed by Hemant Karkare.
NIA decided to drop MCOCA charges against all accused, so that all the statements recorded by late Hemant Karkare and team under MACOCA before a DCP level officer become inadmissible in evidence, once the MCOCA charges are withdrawn. In its zeal to give a clean chit to accused, NIA charge sheet has gone to the extent of branding Mumbai ATS team of late Hemant Karkare as having falsely planted the RDX. Has the BJP government and NIA forgotten about complete commitment of late Hemant Karkare, who laid down his life in 26/11 Mumbai terror attack fighting terrorist like Ajmal Kasab? (agencies)
