HYDERBAD, July 6: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader M Venkaiah Naidu today alleged that the Congress led UPA government at the Centre was bringing into light the Ishrat Jehan case only to cover up its failures and thereby gaining political mileage.
Participating in the 113th Jayanthi Celebrations of Bharatiya Janasangh Founder Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee at party state headquaters here, Mr Naidu said the UPA government was not able to digest the popularity of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and hence to defame him, the Centre had racked up the issue which was happened nine years ago.
He questioned why the Centre was concentrating on Gujarat only, and silent on the 38 encounters occurred in the Congress- ruled states.
Mr Naidu said as per the Intelligence Bureau (IB) report, Ms Ishrat had visited before her death the states like Lucknow, Mumbai, Madurai and Ahmedabad and asked the Centre to clarify on why she had visited these places.
He also said after the encounter, Lashkar-e-Toiba terror outfit had conveyed its condolences on its web-site.
This clearly showed that the she was a terrorist, he said, adding the Centre was adopting double standards on the National Security by extending support to the terrorists.
Earlier, Mr Naidu garlanded the portrait of Mr Mukherjee and distributed note books to the poor students. (UNI)
