JAMMU, Feb 8: Senior Congress leader, Yogesh Sawhney has flayed the incessant hike in fuel prices across India.
In a handout he said that petrol prices have touched a new high post-budget announcement by the BJP led Government.
Sawhney also slammed the Government for alleged complete elimination of domestic gas subsidies.
He said that people are deeply disappointed with the Government’s failure to control continuously rising gas, diesel and petrol prices.
“The BJP run Government’s refusal to cut duties on imported fuel, which comprises nearly 80 per cent of country’s fuel consumption, and further imposing higher duties and taxes, to earn additional revenue has caused the middle class and poor strata a lot of misery and distress,” the Congress leader said.
“BJP falsely claims that cause of high fuel prices are foreign oil-producing companies. Why can’t it take steps to reduce the prices by reducing its share of taxes on fuel to bring the prices down?” he maintained claiming that the government has raised excise duty on fuel almost 11 times.
