JAMMU, Dec 28: Congress celebrated 134th Foundation day of the party by organizing a colourful function at PCC Headquarters, here today.
PCC chief G A Mir presided over the function, which was attended by the senior leaders, including former Ministers, PCC functionaries, Corporators, office bearers of DCC Jammu Urban & Rural, Block Congress Committees, Congress Seva Dal, Mahila Congress, Youth Congress.
Speaking on the occasion, G A Mir said that Congress party has a history of struggle and sacrifices for the Nation during the 133 years. He said that Congress ideology based on secularism and ‘unity in diversity’ is the only way to keep the country strong and united. He lashed out at the divisive policies of BJP which have created divisions in the society. He said that under young leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress has proved that the Modi led BJP would face a tough time in the 2019 elections, as the falsehood and fake propaganda against Congress is getting exposed with every passing day. “The recently held Assembly elections of 5 States have proved to be a turning point in the politics of the country and Congress cadres are reenergized by the tremendous support and dynamic leadership of Rahul Gandhi,” he said.
Former Minister Mula Ram, while speaking, said that Congress alone can keep the country together in view of its secular and inclusive policies. He was critical of the policies and programmes of BJP and Modi Government which have created wedge between the people on different slogans and planks.
Senior Congress leader and former Minister Taj Mohi-ud-din emphasized on firmly believing in the Congress ideology of secularism and togetherness. R S Chib referred to the role played by the Congress in the nation building and said that it was result of the Congress rule that nation emerged strong and prosperous today. PCC vice-president Raman Bhalla referred to challenges of the time and asked the party cadres to counter the false propaganda of BJP. Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said that Congress alone has capability to carry along all sections of the society.
Former MLA Prakash Sharma, Kanta Bhan, Vikram Malhotra and Hari Singh Chib also spoke on the occasion while Dr R K Khajuria conducted proceedings of the event.
Earlier PCC chief also hoisted the party flag at the Congress HQ.
Addressing the function, PCC Migrant Cell chairman, Hira Lal Pandita said that Congress has a great history right from Quit India Movement to shaping the destiny of country after it attained independence in 1947.
He asked party cadres not to get demoralized by the propaganda of BJP against the Congress leadership who have given many sacrifices during the freedom struggle and later keeping this nation united. He said it was the Congress leadership which gave a road map for the development of the nation through Five year plans and constructing of giant projects, damps etc all over the country. Every Cong man should take pride of being a Congress worker and expose those parties which have launched a tirade against the party and its great leaders.
In Kathua, Congress workers celebrated the party’s foundation Day by organizing an impressive function at Hiranagar, under the leadership of former MLC Subash Gupta, who cut a cake to mark the occasion.
Reports from Kishtwar said that District Congress Committee (DCC) Kishtwar also celebrated Foundation Day of Congress. The function was organized by DCC president Mohinder Singh Parihar.
