UDHAMPUR, Apr 12: District Congress Committee (DCC) Udhampur today raised the poor condition of the sewerage system in Udhampur town here.
DCC president, Sumeet Magotra, while talking to media-persons today expressed serious concerns over the poor condition of the city’s sewerage system and alleged irregularities in the Devika Project.
Magotra stated that the issue of the Devika Project has been raised multiple times in the past, with a demand for a fair inquiry into the utilization of fund to the tune of Rs 186 crore. He added that the Municipal Council had also formally submitted a written request for an investigation, but no concrete action has been taken so far, which is highly concerning.
He questioned why BJP MPs and the local MLAs are hesitant to initiate an inquiry into the matter. Such silence raises serious questions and creates doubt in the minds of the public, he added.
Referring to the recent rainfall, Magotra said that even one hour of rain led to filthy sewer and drain water entering several homes and shops across the city. Even the garbage was witnessed spread in the lanes and some city roads. This situation clearly reflects the negligence of the UEED authorities. He warned if immediate corrective measures are not taken, the situation could become even more disastrous during the upcoming rainy season, causing severe hardship to the public.
He urged the administration and the local MLA to take concrete and effective steps before the onset of the monsoon. He also demanded that all the streets and drains that were damaged during the course of work must be reconstructed properly.
