JAMMU, June 11: Jammu and Kashmir Congress today held strong protests at different places across Jammu and Kashmir against the unprecedented price hike of essential commodities especially the petrol, diesel and gas, as part of the nationwide call of the AICC.
JKPCC president, GA Mir led the protest demonstration in front of the Divisional Commissioner Office, Jammu on the Railway Station Road near the petrol pump to register the symbolic protests. Several Senior PCC functionaries, former ministers, Legislators and Corporators joined the protest while similar protests were held by the District Units, Frontal wings and other party units and senior leaders at different places in Jammu and Kashmir.
However, the protests were maintained to the limited presence and symbolic in nature in view of the Covid-19 situation and the advisory. The protest was split into many parts of Jammu City, too and limited to the senior functionaries and leaders only but the party leadership warned of massive protests all over the issue of price hike, once the covid situation improves, if the Modi Govt remained unmoved and adamant to lower the taxes on petrol, diesel and gas and failed to check the prices of all commodities.

The protests were also organized by Pradesh Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, Congress Seva Dal, DCC Jammu (Urban) & (Rural), Kishtwar, Rajouri, Kathua, besides other District Congress Committees and other Party units in different parts of Jammu.
Congress and Youth Congress workers held a strong protest at Kishtwar and several activists were detained by police there.
The main protest of PCC at Jammu was also attended by Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, Suman Bhagat, Balwan Singh, Ravinder Sharma, Th Balbir Singh, Rajnish Sharma, Th Manmohan Singh, Ch Shah Mohd, Pawan Raina, Shashi Sharma, Ashwani Puri, Nadeem Sharief Niaz, Corporators Dwarka Choudhary, Kamal Singh, Sobat Ali & Pritam Singh, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Vinod Sharma, KK Pangotra, Gurdarshan Singh, Suresh Dogra, Gajan Singh, Rajveer Singh, Sahil Sharma, Aiyaz Choudhary, Kapil Singh Chib, Satish Sharma and others.
District Congress Committee Jammu Urban held a strong protest at Gumat Chowk Jammu against price hike of petrol & diesel near Petrol Pump. The protestors led by Ramakant Khajuria, joined by Chander Sheikhar, Gurmeet Singh, Atul Sharma, Vinay Sharma, Janak Mehra, Sanjeev Panda and others.
DDC, Jammu Rural led by its president, Hari Singh Chib held strong protest at Uppar Ploura near Petrol Pump, under Raipur-Domana Constituency. A large number of DCC and BCC functionaries participated in the protest against fueld price hike. Chib also addressed the large gathering.
Similar protests were held by Mahila Congress wing led by Ex-MLA Indu Pawar at Jammu, Kathua and Samba. The women activists shouted slogans against Modi Govt for price hike.
At Udhampur, Sumit Magotra led party workers and held strong protest at Dhar Road. They demanded roll back on fuel price hike.
Meanwhile, Congress staged peaceful symbolic protests in various districts of Kashmir against unprecedented price hike in petrol, diesel, gas and other essential commodities and slammed the Centre Govt for failing to check inflation.
The Party vowed to continue to highlight and fight against the mismanagement and misrule on the part of BJP Govt at Centre and demanded rollback of skyrocketing prices.
DCC Srinagar staged peaceful protest in Srinagar City, in which prominent Party workers and leaders participated and lodged strong protests against the Centre’s failure to check the inflation, which has pushed common people to wall. The activists raised slogan against the failed economic policies and lashed out Centre Govt for all time high prices on petrol, diesel and other commodities.
Those who participated included SS Channi, Abdul Gani Khan, Shameema Iqbal, Nissar Ahmad Mundoo, Abid Kashmiri, Mushtaq Ahmad Khanday, Mir Ruvais, Dr Ayoub Matoo and others. Similar protest were held in Baramulla, Shopian, Kulgam, Kupwara.
