JAMMU, Dec 11: Congress today held protest demonstration against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), terming it against the spirit of the constitution and basic idea of India and launched a strong protest against the remarks of Home Minister, Amit Shah blaming Congress for the division of the country on two nation theory.
Led by  senior functionaries  of party  former ministers and  leaders of Frontal wings, a large number of Congress leaders and workers including functionaries of PCC, DCC, frontal organisations of the party held a protest demonstration carrying placards, opposing the Bill and raising slogans against the Home Minister for his misleading remarks at Shaheedi Chowk in front of Congress office.

They termed the  Bill against the  basic structure of the Constitution and the basic idea of India and said that this will weaken  the unity and harmony in the Country. They blamed that Home Minister’s remarks blaming Congress for the division of the country  on religious lines is  misleading  and distortion of history.
Addressing the gathering Raman Bhalla  attacked  the Bill being discriminatory and against the basic philosophy of the foundation of our country on secular basis. The demand and creation of Pakistan by Jinnah was opposed by Congress led by Mahatma Gandhi, Pt Nehru, Dr Ambedkar and others but the extremist forces divided the country on communal and religious lines. The party is opposed to any such attempt to create division in the society for vote bank politics, he said.
Briefing media persons on the occasion PCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma strongly criticized the remarks of the Home Minister blaming the Congress for the division of the country in total contradiction to the historical facts. He said that Congress party opposed the  demand of two nation theory  on religious lines which was raised by Muslim League led by Jinnah and patronized by the British and supported by some extremists right wing forces of the time. He said BJP should desist from misleading the nation.
