JAMMU, July 30: Amidst growing clamour for President Rule and tension between the two ruling coalition partners in J&K, former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today said that there were some noticeable compromises for the BJP agreed to recognize the status quo of the special status of J&K, violating its own life-long commitment of doing away with Article 370. The party also promised dialogue with separatists.
“Economically, the Centre was to give a push to the State’s tourism, horticulture and power sectors but nothing has been done in this regard. The majority of the population in the State is nationalist and committed to uphold the integrity of the country and believes that their interests and aspirations are safe as being Indians,” Bhalla explained while addressing protesters at Qasim Nagar here.
The protesting people were shouting slogans against Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s statement on Article 35A. This protest was organized by District Jammu president Anil Chopra. The protesters were also demonstrating against the failures of Coalition Govt to provide basic amenities and alleged that they have been made to suffer due to callous attitude of Govt towards their grievances including worst ever power crisis, acute shortage of drinking water and lack of proper supply of ration at Govt depots. They raised anti-Govt slogans and blocked the road for some time.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said that nothing can be more unfortunate than this that when there is severe problem of water, electricity, roads, unemployment, decline in business and chaos in Health sector, the Govt is only busy in giving provocative statements to kill the time and also to divert the attention from its failures.
“Now, when they (BJP) are in power, they feel that Jammu region has got its due in every sphere. They should fulfill the slogans, they used to raise while in opposition. Their silence on all important issues of Jammu region speaks of their total surrender for power. The PDP-BJP leaders are busy only in delivering sermons and repeating of repeated hallow claims. Instead of taking concrete steps to provide means of livelihood to people, the present Government has neglected it completely.” Bhalla maintained.
