KATHUA, Oct 13: A Cadre Camp was organized by All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations in Scheduled Caste Basti at Madeen on Wednesday in which State president of Confederation R K Kalsotra along with Ex panches Guddi Devi, Manju Rani, Raj Kumari, Chintpurni, Gandrab Chand, tehsil secretary Ganesh Dass, youth leaders Ch. Yasar Khan, Balbir Veera, Mohd Shafi, Ajay Pangotra, Devi Soni and others were present.
Participants narrated the condition of SCs of the area, particularly SC Basti, the bad condition of the roads and drains in the area. They said there was no path way to Primary School and so on. They also alleged that the Government sponsored schemes never came to their Bastis, no new LPG connection under newly launched scheme by Prime Minister had been given to them, most of the toilets are incomplete because majority of them are landless and they are even prohibited by the landlords to go for natural call.
The leaders of the Confederation were also informed that the Basti had merely two Government employees and due to low education standard and poverty most of the children leave the education by 8th standard. Moreover widows and old age ladies are not covered under pension schemes. Time to time they requested the Tehsildar and BDOs to visit their Basti but they failed to attract their attention, the Confederation was told.
Kalsotra said that Government has initiated various schemes for poor, SCs, STs and it is unfortunate that these hapless people have not received any benefits from any of these schemes whereas on the other hand, Prime Minister dreams reaching the door steps of the needy and poor through these schemes. He said that we are struggling for the protection of the reservation but today it is surprising to see the worsening condition of SC people who do not have even a sufficient meal to eat, not any proper shelter and education for their children. Kalsotra assured to bring the condition of the SC Basti to the notice of the Administration.
Kalsotra also called upon the cadre to launch special awareness campaigns for people at grassroots level about Government sponsored schemes.
