KASHTWAR, Jan 13: The people of Kishtwar and Doda districts were facing acute power and water crisis with authorities totally sleeping over the issue.
This was alleged in a meeting of prominent citizens and social activists here today which was chaired by senior Congress leader Shamsher Singh Bhandari.
While addressing the meeting Bhandari said that despite the cold wave and tough weather conditions the people in this hilly belt were already put to many hardships which have been further compounded with long duration power cuts and water scarcity.
He said despite the twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar having capacity of generating over 20,000 MWs of power, the authorities concerned have failed to utilize the natural resources for power generation. He said it is pity that even the work on Rattle Power project started over two years back has been closed.
He in an appeal to Governor N N Vohra turned his attention towards the power problem in the area and urged him to issue directives to concerned authorities to solve the problem at an earliest.
