JAMMU, July 4: Hitkari Committee in a meeting here today while expressing concern over the increasing encroachment of the property of Hindu religious places in Valley has demanded passage of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Temples Bill lying with Joint Select Committee of State Legislature.
The Committee said that there was no reason in delaying the passage of the Bill by the Government which has already constituted the religious and Shrine Boards for various religious places in Jammu even after the opposition from local people and Baridars despite the fact that these religious places were in safe hands and were being run properly.
It said in comparison to that the position of many shrines in Kashmir Valley is deplorable and formation of Board was necessary to safeguard their properties and protect these shrines which are aged old cultural monuments.
The meeting has decided to convene the meeting of displaced Pandits from Anantnag township on July 6 at Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra Anandnagar Bohri to discuss future course of action regarding the protection of Hindu shrines of the town.
