JAMMU, Apr 26: The Department of CTVS, Super Speciality Hospital, Govt Medical College, Jammu today organized a day long workshop on complex vascular interventions,where in several patients of complex vascular diseases were managed through endovascular interventions Patients of aortoiliac diseases, aortoarterites, complex venous stenosis, Klippel trenau syndrome and peripheral vessel re stenosis underwent the intervention procedures.
Capt V S bedi Chairman Vascular Surgery and Dr Ajay Yadav, Senior Consultant both from Sir Gangaram Hospital New Delhi were the visiting faculty for the workshop. The local faculty included Dr Gurjit Singh, Dr Noor Ali, Dr Sushil Kumar Sharma, Dr Ishtiaq Mir, Dr Arvind Kohli, Dr Sham Singh, Dr Mohit Arora and Dr Vivek Gandotra, Dr Bhumika Gupta along with staff of CTVS and Cath lab Dr Puja Vimesh and team organized the anesthesia and post operative care of the patients.
The workshop was conducted under patronage of Principal Govt Medical College Jammu, Dr Sunanda Raina and logistic support of Cardiology cath lab of Super speciality hospital Jammu .
In the evening , a group meeting of the faculty regarding latest innovations in field of vascular interventions was organized in which various new techniques in field of arterial and venous interventions were highlighted along with optimizing results of vascular surgery by taking different new modalities of treatment.
Workshop convener Dr VS Bedi said that Endovascular surgery has revolutionized the management of vascular ailments and particularly Aneurysm interventions and recent development in venous interventions like mechanical thrombectomy technique for managing DVT. Advent of Vein stents has made the management of these complex cases very much easier though the time tested open surgery is required in certain no of cases.
Workshop coordinator Dr Arvind Kohli said incidence of vascular diseases has grown four folds and number of patients of these diseases have increased rampantly in Jammu region and endovascular interventions along with open vascular surgery is required for managing these ailments. Venous disease like DVT ,vein stenosis and varicose veins are getting real benefit these days because of endovenous interventions and benefitting these patients at large.Similarly new techniques in vascular access for Chronic Kidney diseases help these patients for maintaining dialysis. Hence, estabilishing endovascular techniques at GMC Jammu will go a long way in helping these needy patients, Dr Kohli said.
