DODA, July 28: A grid station of Power Development Department (PDD) in Changa area of Bhalessa here was completed some 16 years back but has not so far put to operation while public of the area is reeling under power crisis.
With transformers, machinery, towers, poles, cables etc worth crores of rupees left to rot, people of the area have expressed concern over the negligent attitude of those at the helm in this regard.
Locals informed that completed in the year 2007, the grid station has now bushes grown inside and around it and the installed machinery, transformers etc are left to face rainfall and other vagaries of the nature.
District and Tehsil administration along with the local leaders have never taken a cognisance of the issue.
A local leader, Amar Chand said that PDD has left the grid station which was made after incurring an expenditure of Rs. 10 crore.
“It has a capacity of 132 KV while presently the local supply is made from Khleni Grid Station with much less capacity,” he further said.
Dr. A.C Bhagat, chairperson Lok Adhikaar Mission J&K also flayed the authorities for abandoning the Grid Station of Changa (Chan Bagra) area in Sub-Division Bhallessa.
When contacted the concerned Executive Engineer, Ayoub Khawaja informed that the work was given to a firm ‘KEC’ which abandoned it mid-way and went to court for arbitration.
“After that the Chief Engineer terminated their contact and now it has been handed over to Power Grid Corporation of India which is working on it,” he further said.
Khawaja informed that there are two lines with this grid station. One from Ramban to Khelani and Khelani to Thathri and the other from Tharthri to Bhelessa and Thathri to Kishtwar.
“Work on the line from Ramban to Khelani is underway and hopefully within one and half year the grid station might be made operational,” he continued.
