Committee begins its 2-day meeting with Gulmarg hoteliers

Srinagar, Dec 16: The Committee formed by the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, G N Itoo today reached Gulmarg for two days where it has started hearing the issues and problems of the hoteliers.
On Wednesday, the team met with several hoteliers in this regard who presented their issues before the Committee. The Committee will continue to meet the hoteliers on Thursday as well and will also carry out a thorough inspection of the documents available with the hoteliers.
An official privy to the meeting told Excelsior that the documents presented before the committee were thoroughly checked and that they (hoteliers) pleaded that majority of the hotels have lease for 90 years and last year they completed 40 years and it needs to be renewed.
The committee comprises of CEO, Gulmarg Development Authority, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, Tehsildar Gulmarg including SDM Gulmarg.
Notably, the committee was formed by the District Administration on the directions of the High Court to provide a hearing to the hoteliers operating in Gulmarg which are 69 in number.
Interestingly, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, G N Itoo earlier in a meeting with the hoteliers had assured that they will be provided with every support; however, he had made it clear that there will not be any compromise on the encroachments.
