AKHNOOR, Oct 7: Gouri Shankar Mandir Committee, Akhnoor has alleged that some people are encroaching upon the temple land in the town here.
Addressing media persons here today, Kamal Sharma, a Committee member of Gouri Shankar Mandir said that this is very old temple in the Akhnoor town whose land is being encroached upon by some people. He said that the priest of the temple had gone to Indore during covid and they all were taking care of the temple in his absence. But during this period some locals tried to encroach upon the land of the temple. He said that the total land of the temple is around 14 kanals and there are already a temple and a few houses built in that land but now some locals are trying to encroach upon the land of the temple worth crores.
“We approached all the concerning departments/ agencies including Revenue, Police, Irrigation and Municipal Committee Akhnoor but all the departments went to deep slumber and no action was taken against the encroachers. He said that few months back, the Irrigation Department had sent notice to the people doing construction work but they on intervening Saturday and Sunday night, did the rest of construction work.
Vishal Gupta, another member said that one of the persons involved in encroachment has threatened to eliminate him if he approached the concerned authorities. He said that they have given written complaint to police in this regard. If anything happens to him or his family or any member of Temple Committee, a Government employee, behind these ancroachments will be responsible for the same who name has also been given to police, he added.
He also appealed to the people of Akhnoor town to come forward to save the temple land. Vishal alleged that if any law and order problem becomes, local administration will be responsible as it has remained inactive so far.
