Com Min launches portal for trade, commerce related issues

NEW DELHI, Feb 1:
The Commerce Ministry today launched a portal which will provide detailed information regarding the country’s exports and imports with top 25 trade partners, besides SAARC and ASEAN.
The portal offers exporters and importers a comprehensive guidance for concluding international trade transactions successfully with a specific focus on South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and top 25 trade destinations.
It has been developed to facilitate exporters which may result in expansion of trade.
“This is just a beginning, we will add more value to it. India is a significant player in the global trade. We contribute 2 per cent in the world trade. But we have not realised out trade potential,” Commerce Secretary S R Rao told reporters here after launching the website.
The portal provides user-friendly access to relevant information for import and export of different products in digital form, he added.
Besides, it would provide an access to an online database of current duty structure of top 25 destinations with which India has entered into regional or bilateral agreements.
The country has operationalised free trade agreements with countries including Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore.
The website will also give technical information related with rules of origin (RoO), sanitary and phyto-sanitary (SPS) measures and technical barriers to trade (TBT).
“It provides access to the various documents in terms of RoO, SPS and TBT requirements that an Indian traders requires to know while importing and exporting,” an official statement said.
Indian traders requires all this for various products to ensure successful trade transactions.
The link to the portal has been provided through department of commerce website under ‘What’s New’ and ‘Useful Links’.
“This is a very welcome move of the Commerce Ministry. It will help both exporters and importers of the country in terms of accessing information on tariff rates and other rules. This will surely lead to the expansion and boosting of trade and would provide big help to all exporters,” Apparel Export promotion Council (AEPC) Chairman A Sakthivel said. (PTI)
