Colleges should act as research laboratories: Rohella

Jammu, Feb 10: First ever Faculty Development Programme (FDP) of the Higher Education Department begun today, at the Govt. College of Education, Jammu.
Secretary Higher Education Talat Parvez Rohella was the chief guest on the occasion.
Faculty Development Programme is a special programme designed to imbibe in the faculty and scholars of the Higher Education Department the habit of doing research thereby making new contributions in their respective domains.
This course includes introduction to research methodology, discussion on importance of ethics in research, basic considerations in designing a research study, malpractices and practices in research, research plagiarism, research methods in literature, importance of thinking social relevance and interdisciplinary approaches in research, measures to boost research and enhance research quality in higher education.
In his introductory address, Rohella stated that research is an integral part of development and hence its importance should be highlighted from the grass root levels , i.e. , our colleges and institutions. He also mentioned that colleges should act as research laboratories and the research outcomes should benefit the society.
Dr. Sangita Nagari, Principal GCOE, in her welcome address, said that such a training to the teachers and scholars will foster their productivity and bring out new innovative ideas which will lead to the progression and development of society.
This is a two weeks training programme. Around 25 resource persons from reputed universities such as JNU, Delhi University, Jamia Milia Islamia, University of Jammu, etc are going to deliver lectures.
Prof. Dr. Mohd. Yasmeen Shah (Director Colleges) and Deputy Secretary Higher Education Department Sanjeev Rana were the guests of honour on the occasion.
Dr. Mohd. Salim Khan (GMC, Srinagar) was a special invitee. The inaugural ceremony was organised by the organising committee GCOE and coordination cell.
