Colleges, schools shut for April 19

Srinagar, Apr 18: Government today ordered closure of Colleges and Higher Secondary schools in Kashmir valley for the second day after widespread protests by students yesterday.
The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir said that teaching work in all colleges of Kashmir division shall remain suspended on April 19 (Wednesday) as a precautionary measure.
According to the District Magistrate Shopian, all Higher Secondary Schools of the district and Degree College Shopian shall remain closed on April 19 in order to maintain law and order situation.
The students of the college are informed that no class work shall be held on the said date.
The Kashmir University, in a statement, said that class-work in the campuses shall remain suspended on April 19, but all examinations will be held as per schedule.
Meanwhile, protests were held by girl students in Kashmir University as the hostel boarders this noon gathered in the varsity premises and protested against the assault on students by security forces in Pulwama Degree College last week. The prostesting students raised slogans against the police and Government for assaulting students.
Shutdown was held in Pulwama and Kulgam areas by people against the assault on students.
