College teacher beaten up by youth

POONCH, Oct 21: An Assistant Professor of English from Govt Degree College, Poonch was severely beaten up by some unidentified youth at Lasana village in Surankote area last evening.
Reports said the incident took place when Dr Wazahat Hussain, posted as Assistant Professor in Degree College Poonch just boarded off a vehicle at Lasana after finishing his duty. He hails from Lasana village. Some unidentified youth suddenly attacked him and started beating up on the road. They were chasing the professor.
Some people tried to intervene but they too, were thrashed. Later, beating up Dr Wazahat, they disappeared from the spot. Today, the Professor brought the matter to the notice of Principal of the GDC Poonch, Prof Tejinder Singh. The entire staff convened an emergency meeting which was convened by the staff secretary of the college, Dr Aurangzeb. The staff strongly condemned the incident of attack on professor and forwarded a written complaint to the SSP Poonch demanding registration of an FIR against the accused persons and their immediate arrest.
The college staff also forwarded a letter to the College Teachers Association Jammu province seeking their support for the incident. They have threatened to go on indefinite strike if the accused were not arrested within three days by police. In the complaint it has been alleged that a reign of terror has been created with the activities of `goonda’ elements. They are creating law and order problem. Such activities be checked in the general interest of the citizens, teachers and the students in particular.
