College students protest at Thannamandi

RAJOURI, Aug 21: The students of  Govt Degree College, Thannamandi held protest demonstration near Shahdara -Thannamandi Chowk today.
The students came out of their classes and moved to the road and started protest rally. They blocked road at Shahdara Chowk and sat on dharna. They were raising slogans against Education Minister and State Government.
They alleged that there are no teachers/ lecturers in the college and the students have been left to suffer.   The college has started functioning for the last one month but no teachers are there. Out of 24 Lecturers/ Assistant Professors  sanctioned for the college just four are placed as regular while no contractual or adhoc staff has been provided till now. The Principal was only giving false assurances but nothing has been done in this regard.
The agitating students blocked road  from 10 am to 1 pm and created traffic jam. Later,  SDM, SDPO  and Tehsildar Thannmandi reached the spot and they talked to higher authorities on phone. With their assurances, the students lifted dharna. It was conveyed that  by Monday some staff will be placed at the college.
