CM’s intervention sought in making floriculture policy

JAMMU, Apr 28: -President Flower Growers Association Tajinder Singh has demanded immediate intervention of Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, for making floriculture policy with respect to framing timeline for flow of funds  under Centrally sponsored schemes and judicious utilization and reach of this department in every potential clusters of the State so that small and marginal farmer who are dependent on Government assistance get benefited  and the Government could also easily tap the Rs 200 crore market of the State.
Singh said that growing of flowers and aromatic oil has proved a most lucrative activity of agriculture sector which can mitigate the un employment problem of the State but still we depend upon other parts of world either be it tulip bulb or any other seed even open pollinated flower  seed for flower gardens of the State are brought from other parts of the country. He said presently the scenario of commercial floriculture in the State is grim where flowers growers are facing difficulty with respect to , technology interventions, extension, value addition, marketing infrastructure.
He stressed on making Department of Floriculture as a result oriented organization as commercial floriculture proved most lucrative and high profit enterprise in past where Jammu and Kashmir  flowers were exported to other States. But it is sorry to say today we cannot meet even demand of one district.
The Association however expressed satisfaction with the initiative taken by Mehbooba Mufti , Chief Minister, for development of sector including   Basmati ,  saffron, Horticulture   and specially announcement of    preparation  of comprehensive  export  oriented commercial floriculture plan  for state  in recent reviewing agriculture sector.
Flower growers also expressed confidence over the interest shown by Priya Sethi as a Minister of State for Floriculture and they were hopeful that with this initiative flower growers can tap a 100 corer market of loose flower in Jammu.
