CME on ‘Blood Safety’ held

JAMMU, June 2: A CME cum workshop on ‘Blood Safety: Towards 0 % Transmission of Transfusion Transmissible Infections’ was held in the PG Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion, GMC Jammu under aegis of Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology (ISBTI) J&K Chapter today.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean GMC Jammu, D.R Kanethia, Administrator GMC and AH Jammu, Dr. T.R Raina, Ex-Prof and HOD GMC Jammu, Dr. Virender Trisal, Medical Superintendent, GMCH Jammu, Dr. Meena Sidhu, HOD of Transfusion Medicine GMC Jammu and Dr. Naveen Akhtar, Department of Transfusion Medicine GMC Jammu were organising Chairman and Organising Secretary of the CME respectively.
During the inaugural function, Dr Ashutosh Gupta stressed on the need to enhance voluntary blood donation to meet the ever increasing need of blood especially among multi-transfused patients like Thalassemia, cancer and kidney disease patients.
Experts including Dr. Sonia Gupta, Dr. Irm Yasmeen, Dr. Lubna Naseer and Dr Kajal Khajuria from various Medical Colleges of J&K and AIIMS Vijaypur namely Dr Urveshi Kotwal and Dr Sushant Meenia participated in the CME and deliberated on various aspects of transfusion transmitted infectious screening in blood donors.
The CME also included workshop on RT-PCR NAT testing of Blood for HIV, HBV and HCV which is an advanced technology to detect these infections.
Proceedings of the CME were conducted by Dr Anshu Mahajan, Dr Rashmi Kumari and Dr Neeti Dutt. The CME was awarded with four credit points by J&K Medical Council.
