Climate Change Environment Educators conference organized

JAMMU, Dec 14: Centre for Environment Education (CEE) Ahmedabad,  in collaboration  with Department of Environmental Sciences and CEET J&K,  organized one day Climate Change Environment Educators conference at the University of Jammu today.
More than 100 teachers and Lecturers attended the conference, wherein  Priya Sethi,   Minister of State for Education, Culture and Information,  was the chief guest while   Vice – Chancellor Prof  R D Sharma presided over the function. Dr Abdesh Gangwar Programme Director CEE Himalaya, Dr  Rahul Goswami UNSECO consultant Cultural and Natural Heritage, O  P  Sharma, Director Environment Ecology and Remote Sensing, Sushil Kumar, Manager NABARD,  Rajeshwar Jassrotia CCF,  Prof J  Jagannathan, Central University and Dr  Sanjay Sharma of  the  Department of Environment Sciences, JU, were the resource persons.
Dr  C  M  Seth,  an expert environment educator of the State,  appealed the Government to set up Eco and Nature Clubs in all schools and colleges to make environment education universal for all students. He also urged the Government to sanction and post at least one Environment Science teacher in each school and college to prepare the future generation for  Climate Change and Global warming challenge and dangers. He informed that how State Education Department is fully supporting various programmes of CEET like Science Express where more than 30000 students visited in last three years.
Speaking on the occasion,  Priya Sethi said that present Government will take all steps to strengthen the environment education subject at all levels of school and college education. She also said that the present Government will give major thrust and focus to environment education in its new education policy and make it a part of Climate Change State Action Plan for CC adaptation and mitigation measures.
Prof  R D Sharma said  that environment conservation has always been very close to Indian culture. He said that as compared to Foot Print concept of Western society,  we in India believe more for Hand Print positive actions. He gave examples of connecting human beings with nature through worshipping of Pipal and Tulsi.
On this occasion, WIPRO EARTHIAN project report of teachers was also released and certificates were also distributed to the teachers who successfully completed two months projects in their schools.
