JAMMU, May 30: The peaceful token strike spearheaded by the Class IVth and Casual Labourers including Safai Karamcharis of Jammu University (JU) under the banner of Non Gazetted Employees Union (NGEU) entered 18th day today with no positive response from the JU authorities even as the JU is turning into a fish market with no cleanliness in the offices, hostels, bathrooms and toilets stinking etc.
Meanwhile today, Jasmeet Singh, District president, J&K People’s Democratic Trade Union met president and general secretary of the NGEU and extended PDTU’s full support to the just and genuine cause of the Class IVth employees who are serving in JU in temporary capacity from the last 17-18 years.
Jasmeet Singh criticised the Vice Chancellor and his advisors for adopting dilly dallying tactics in resolving the employees issues. He sought the intervention of JU Chancellor, N N Vohra in resolving the strike amicably as the faith and credibility of the present VC and his team is at its lowest ebb among the employees in resolving the crisis.
Krishan Chand, president, NGEU while addressing the protesting employees said that sufficient Class IVth posts are already lying vacant and there is no need for creating the posts and if the Vice Chancellor is sincere, he should go ahead with their absorption at an earliest to diffuse the situation arising out of the strike.
All the Union members vociferously demanded their regularization at an earliest and warned the authorities to intensify their strike if their demands are not met till Monday.
