JAMMU, July 23: Pakistan army today resorted to heavy shelling and firing at forward posts and civilians areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, causing minor injuries to a civilian. Only yesterday, an Army jawan was martyred in Pakistan shelling and firing in Sunderbani sector.
Shelling and firing by Pakistan army continued in Poonch, Krishna Ghati, Mankote and Mendhar sectors, during the day today intermittently. It was going on in forward areas of Mendhar till late tonight when the reports last came in.
Reports said a civilian sustained minor injuries in Pakistan shelling in Mendhar.
Reports added that Pakistan initiated small arms firing in violation of the ceasefire agreement in Poonch sector around 12.20 am. It was followed by shelling with mortars along the LoC in Krishna Ghati, Mankote and Mendhar sectors, they said, adding that the Indian Army retaliated befittingly, leading to heavy exchanges.
Barring minor injuries to a civilian, there was no other damage on the Indian side. The injured civilian has been identified as Sher Mohammad S/o Muneer Hussain R/o Balnoi. They have been admitted in Mendhar hospital. However, Pakistan was reported to have suffered damage in retaliatory firing by the Indian troops.
This was the third such violation in the past four days which left an Army jawan martyred and a civilian injured, the sources said.
On Monday, Rifleman Mohammad Arif Shafi Alam Khan Pathan was martyred in unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district.
A civilian was injured in Pakistani firing in Balnoi village along the LoC in Mendhar sector of Poonch district on Saturday.
