JAMMU, Mar 14: The Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) workers accompanied by ‘Rehdi-Fadi’ wallas held protest against the Traffic Police and JMC authorities for lifting and seizure of their rehris in Jammu city.
The protest, led by CITU general secretary Om Parkash started from Green Belt Park Gandhi Nagar and later reached the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu at Rail Head Complex after passing through various markets. They were shouting slogans against Traffic Police and the JMC authorities.
Several CITU activists also addressed the gathering and said that their bread and butter is being snatched by the authorities. They alleged that concerned JMC officials are getting regular Hafta/ share from these rehriwallas besides a fixed fee for registration and renewal of the same and moreover, they are also paying `Hafta’ to the concerned Police Thana people regularly. Despite this all, their Rehris-Faris have been lifted and seized. They demanded that JMC should identify some areas to rehabilitate these people. Their families would face starvation.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu demanding that administration should identify areas for the rehabilitation of these small traders / rehri-wallas. The Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Hemant Sharma assured to solve their issue.
CITU leaders -Sham Parsad Kesar, Jia Lal Parihar, Ramesh Bhat and Jagdish Raj Sharma also accompanied.
