Besides airports, security of some sensitive installations including power projects over river Chenab, some of them under construction, is also being managed by the CISF, a paramilitary force under the Home Ministry.
“The Commandos including women will be deployed at various airports of the country, mainly the sensitive ones, including Jammu and Srinagar which fall in the category of highly sensitive in view of decades long terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir though it has been at its lowest ebb now,” sources told the Excelsior.
The CISF, as per the sources will be inducting, its first-ever all women commando team into the core operations. The women commandos are being trained at Regional Training Centre (RTC) in Barwaha, Madhya Pradesh. They will be trained for Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and Special Task Force (STF) for high-security establishments and plants.
At least 100 women from different Aviation Security Groups and sensitive CISF units will complete the programme, the sources said.
The Government has already stepped-up security arrangements at all power projects especially those which are under construction over river Chenab in Kishtwar district of the Jammu region in the wake of India scrapping the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) with Pakistan.
Pakistan has repeatedly been protesting against scrapping of the IWT.
The CISF has already been manning security of power projects including those working and those under construction. The security arrangements will be further strengthened with deployment of the CISF commandos including the women.
“Though no incident has been reported at Jammu and Srinagar airports as well as the power projects, both functional and under construction, the Government doesn’t want to take any chance and will be gradually taking all security arrangements to ensure their peaceful functioning,” the sources said.
India scrapped the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan in the aftermath of April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians including 25 tourists and a local were killed. The Central Government took a series of punitive measures against Pakistan which included scrapping of the Treaty.
The Government has initiated number of steps to stop flow of water of the Indian rivers to Pakistan.
