NEW DELHI, Nov 26: The Ministry of Home Affairs is yet to appoint incumbents to top two posts of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) which have remained vacant for the past fortnight, even as the country observes fifth anniversary of 26/11 terror attacks.
While the last Director General of the CISF, Rajiv retired on October 31, his second-in-command officer and Special DG R R Verma was also transferred to the National Crimes Record Bureau (NCRB) as OSD on October 28.
IPS officer Verma was heading the airports security of the CISF which guards 59 civil airports of the country.
Sources said at present another senior IPS officer and Special DG A C Verma is heading all the operations of the force even as the MHA has given the additional charge of CISF chief to BSF DG Subhash Joshi.
The 1.47 lakh-personnel strong force is not only deployed for guarding the airports but also secures a number of critical infrastructure in the aerospace and nuclear power sector.
The paramilitary force also guards the Delhi Metro and some of the private bellwether companies in the Information Technology (IT) domain.
“The policy planning and decision making does suffer in the absence of a regular chief. While the work keeps going on, the need for a full-time commander can never suffice with the fact that the charge has been given to someone in an additional capacity,” a senior official said.
The Home Ministry recently issued orders for appointing a regular chief for border guarding force Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) after keeping the post vacant for two months. (PTI)
