NEW DELHI, Dec 5: A national level delegation of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) led by Director General Chandrajit Banerjee met Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here and discussed different issues related to Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), particularly the issue of Lokpal and Lokayukta Act, 2013 on which discussion for amendment is pending in the Parliament.
A memorandum was also presented to the Minister which consisted of separate individual representations by some of the well-known industrialists and trade leaders of the country, including Rahul Bajaj of Bajaj Auto Ltd., R. Narayana Murthy of Infosys, Adi Godrej, Chairman of the Godrej Group and Thomas Chandy, CEO “Save the Children”.
Members of delegation extended full support to the Modi government’s initiative to increase transparency and accountability and to curb corruption in all the socio-economic activities. The CII representation appreciated the several campaigns such as “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” and “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiated by the government, to which the private sector and private industrial houses are contributing with enthusiasm.
However, the main contention of the presentation handed over to the Minister was that even as they fully support the purpose of Lokpal Act, there are certain aspects and provisions on which they would like themselves to be heard since they also hold a stake to it.
The memorandum also suggested that the government should consider some of their specific suggestions which, according to them, are practical and pragmatic, and would be in keeping with the spirit of the Act. At the same time, the members of the delegation reiterated their commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for transparency and probity in public life and to minimize government and maximize governance.
Dr Jitendra Singh gave a patient hearing to the members of delegation and said, he would get examined, the various inputs submitted to him in writing.
