JAMMU, June 21: Senior BJP and KP leader and in charge, Department of Political Affairs and Feedback, J&K-BJP, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo today said the statement of Bob Blackman, UK MP for bringing a motion in the UK Parliament in regard to the displaced Kashmiri Pandits on the occasion of International Refugee Day on 20th June is the endorsement of KPs stand against terrorism and added that it is also recognition of the three decade old struggle in exile of the Kashmiri Pandit community scattered throughout the world.
He said, while participating in a Webinar today, that the text of the Motion (EDM 2008) moved by four members of UK Parliament is a historic political document. It says, “That this House pays tribute to the resilience of the persecuted minorities, victims of Jehad, living as refugees, fighting for their rights, the world over; empathises with the plight of those people; highlights the special case of Kashmiri Hindus (Pandits) who continue to live as refugees in their own country as their genocide is yet to be acknowledged; urges the Government of India to ensure that the legal recognition of genocide of Kashmiri Hindus is followed by due action to deliver justice to that hard working, resilient community of nation builders; and hopes that the Kashmiri Hindus are able to return to their homeland and see an end to being refugees in their own country”.
Chrungoo was speaking in the Webinar presided over by Utpal Kaul, GKPD incharge, India Chapter. The proceedings were conducted by Prof. Ritu Bakshi, vice chairperson of DOPK. Prof. M.K.Bharat presented a vote of thanks.
While acknowledging the efforts of the UK MPs in London, Chrungoo said that it needs to be emphasised that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) way back in 1999 in its decision on KPs complaint termed what was done to the Kashmiri Pandits as “acts akin to genocide” and also said that “genocide type design” may exist against them in the minds and utterances of the terrorists and militants in the valley of Kashmir.
He said such an important step, as a confidence building measure, will take the displaced community several steps ahead towards the Kashmir Valley in context of their resettlement there, in due course.
