Christians demand OBC privileges

JAMMU, Oct 5: JK Christian Minority Welfare Association has alleged that minority communities, particularly Christians, were neglected in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement to the press, issued here today, the Association Chairman, Nassir Masih expressed his resentment against the Central Government and the J&K administration for depriving the most deserving community of its due share as a considerable section of the Christians in J&K is still in a backward state. He sought privileges of Other Backward Communities for the Christian community in J&K.
The President of JKCMWA, Michael Wazir alleged that demands being projected by the Christian community for a long time are being ignored by all successive Governments. He appealed to the Union Home Minister to intervene and ensure required status is granted to Dalit Christians at the earliest.
Michael Wazir also urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take the survey of the economic condition of the Christian community in J&K the same way it did for the Paharis to assess how backward the community is in order to get reservation benefits.
