China incursion: LS demands explanation from PM

NEW DELHI : Expressing concern over the deep incursion by Chinese troops in Ladakh sector of Jammu and Kashmir, opposition parties in the Lok Sabha today demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh explain why the Indian Army was not allowed to do its job of driving away the intruders.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav said India should take the Northern neighbour  as its ‘main enemy’ and should not show any diffidence in dealing with the aggression.
”We are seeing the repetition of 1962-like situation when  Socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia had warned of China launching an attack on India when Chinese Premier Chou En-Lai visited the country. We accorded him a red carpet welcome and once he was back in Beijing, the attack came,” Mr Yadav said.
Making submissions while BJP MPs were shouting slogans demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister on the coal blocks allocation issue, Mr Yadav said as a leader privy to the happenings inside the defence quarters, he had been cautioning the country about the impending attack by China.
They have pitched their tents 19 km deep inside India’s territory and the government should explain why it was not permitting Indian army to drive away the itruders, he said.
”China is our biggest enemy not Pakistan,” the SP supremo added.
The former Defence Minister also sought the Chair’s intrervention in debating such an important issue.
