Chenani-Nashri tunnel going to change people’s destiny: MLC

JAMMU, Apr 3: Hoping that commissioning of Chenani-Nashri tunnel is going to change destiny of the people of the J&K State, Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), Vikramaditya Singh today said that it is big gift for the people of  the State.
In a press statement here today the senior PDP leader said that  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated India’s longest tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. The PM dedicated the biggest road tunnel to the nation.  He extended his congratulations to all those who have continuously contributed to such magnificent project.
“It swells my chest with pride to belong to a place which has Asia’s longest bi-directional road tunnel, Chenani-Nashri, which connects Udhampur district with Ramban district on Jammu-Srinagar Highway and also the world’s sixth tunnel to have transverse ventilation system, providing fresh air to passengers. This tunnel will not only open two-ways  but also will open ways for peace and economy prospects for the State,”  Singh said.
PDP leader  pointed that the reduced travel time will boost tourism in the State and also its economy. It will help in countering terrorism while ensuring State’s development and well-being through tourism elevation round the year as this tunnel will ensure a safe and swift passage for commuters, even in adverse weather conditions.
He said the tunnel speaks volumes on smart technology and possesses a fully-integrated control system with ventilation, communication, power supply, incident detection, SOS call box and firefighting mechanism. The tunnel is also equipped with advanced scanners to ward off any security threat.
Stating that the Chenani-Nashri tunnel can be called the “safest highway tunnel in the country where in an Incident Detection Systems is installed and if any accident happens, the control team will get to know before the victim contacts through the SOS call box making the rescue team help quickly in evacuation of the person and vehicle through the safety tunnel,” Vikramaditya said.
