JAMMU, May 3: Former Minister Gulchain Singh Charak today condemned the State Government and MLA Bishnah for ignoring the woes of farmers, whose majority of the crops were damaged in recent untimely rains and hailstorms that hit the State.
Addressing a meeting of Congress workers at Bishnah, which was attended by a large number of workers, Numberdars, Chowkidars, Sarpanches and Panches, he expressed grave concern about the total loss of crops of farmers due to unprecedented rains and condemned the Government for giving false assurance of providing appropriate relief to the affected farmers though neither any officer has been appointed to assess the loss of farmers nor any financial assistance or any kind of help has been extended to them.
Demanding the immediate action by the Government in this regard, he threatened to launch a vigorous agitation if farmers are not saved from starvation at the earliest.
Charak advised the Government and elected representatives of the people to provide immediate relief to the affected farmers instead of issuing statements in the Press.
He further said that the roads, lanes, drains etc of the constituency are quite in dilapidated condition putting the people in un-ending trouble.
Others who spoke on the occasion were Gambhir Dev Singh, Waryam Chand, Madan Bhagat, SK Digra, Dr Raghubir, Dr Nand Lal, Rakesh Dogra, Nand Lal, Capt Gurbachan Singh and Gurnam Singh.
