SRINAGAR, Aug 27: Chief of Northern Command of Army, Lt General Sanjiv Chachra today visited Line of Control (LoC) and reviewed the operational preparedness and security situation in Kashmir valley.
Accompanied by Lt General Gurmeet Singh, Chinar Corps Commander, the Northern Army chief visited Army units and formations in the Valley during his two day visit and reviewed the operational preparedness along the LoC and security situation in the hinterland.
Srinagar based Defence spokesman, Naresh Vij, said that primary focus of the visit along the LoC was in the forward areas of Gurez, Machhil, Tangdhar and Gulmarg wherein the GOC interacted with the troops and complimented them for their dedication, outstanding vigilance, high state of preparedness and the grit and determination with which they are braving all the odds of terrain and weather in service to the nation.
The spokesman said that the Army commander also visited the Sector Headquarters of RR located in the hinterland and praised them for exercising a very high degree of control over the internal security situation, upholding the highest ethos of Army and respecting the Human Rights of the people.
The spokesman further said that Army Commander was pleased with the Counter Infiltration and Joint Intelligence Grid which resulted in a series of successful counter infiltration and counter terrorist operations during which 28 militants were killed. He particularly commended the high level of synergy between the security forces, the intelligence agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Army Commander assured that Army will continue to defend the State from the ulterior designs perpetrated by our neighbor and continue to work for the sustained peace in the State.
