JAMMU, Aug 27: After overnight lull, Pakistan Army again violated ceasefire this afternoon at Bhimber Gali in Poonch sector this afternoon prompting immediate retaliation from the Indian side.
Heavy exchange of firing continued in BG sector for past quite sometime. Other sectors were by and large peaceful during the day today. This was for the first time in past over 20 days that most of the sectors in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch were peaceful.
Today’s firing at Bhimber Gali sub sector of Poonch district was 40th ceasefire violation in the past about 20 days, official sources said.
They added that Pakistan Army started heavy firing with small and automatic guns in Bhimber Gali sector at 3 pm today forcing Indian troops to retaliate. The exchange of firing continued for quite sometime.
However, there were no casualties or damage on the Indian side in the firing.
Indian side gave an effective reply to the Pakistani firing. Troops on this side used equal caliber of weapons to retaliate, sources said.
They added that most active sectors like Balakote, Mendhar, Hamirpur and Poonch in Poonch district and Manjakote and Keri sectors in Rajouri district were silent since 6 pm last evening.
Sources said Pakistan Army has suffered heavy losses in retaliatory firing by the Indian troops and that could be the major reason for their guns falling silent today. However, the sources didn’t rule out resumption of ceasefire violations by the Pakistan Army after the brief lull.
