CEO reviews poll arrangements with DEOs

JAMMU, Nov 22:  As the first phase of polling is nearing, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) J&K, Umang Narula, held Video Conference with all the District Election Officers (DEOs), SSPs and ROs and  reviewed election arrangements here today.
While taking a detailed review of the preparedness of first and second phase of polling in the State, Mr. Narula called upon various concerned agencies to maintain close coordination among themselves for achieving tangible results. He directed for timely despatch of polling parties, security personnel and polling material, especially in the far-flung areas for the smooth conduct of elections.
Laying stress on ensuring the fool-proof security scenario during the election process, the CEO called for deployment of adequate forces to restore the confidence of people, especially in the sensitive and vulnerable areas. He also discussed the issues related to the functioning of web casting polling stations in the sensitive and hypersensitive areas, which would be equipped with video cameras and other gadgets to keep a special vigil on the polling process. He directed the concerned agencies to keep a close vigil on the activities of the unscrupulous elements, which can possibly foment trouble in the election process.
The CEO also discussed the issues relating to the arrangements for preservation of EVMs and counting of polls, allotment of symbols to the contesting candidates, MCC violations, updating of migrant voter lists, distribution of EPICs, Photo Voter Identity Slips. He directed the concerned to update the migrant voter lists well before the scrutiny day in next phases.
Mr. Narula expressed satisfaction on the preparedness in the areas which are going to poll in the first phase and asked the concerned to plug the gaps, if any. He directed for speeding up the process in the areas which are going to poll in next phases.
He directed to accelerate the SVEEP activities in all districts to improve the poll percentage, as has been envisaged by the Election Commission of India. He also called for strict implementation of MCC and all necessary steps to ensure free and fair elections in the State.
Election Consultant, Harcharan Singh, ARO Migrants, Sachin Dev Singh were also present in the Video Conferencing.
