Centre has sanctioned two AIIMS, two smart cities for J&K: Mehbooba

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today announced that two All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and two smart cities have been sanctioned by the Centre for the State.
Speaking on the Motion of Thanks on Governor’s address in the Legislative Assembly here, she said one each AIIMS has been sanctioned for Kashmir and Jammu by the Centre.
The AIIMS will be set up at Samba in Jammu and Awantipora in south Kashmir. On smart cities, she said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured her that Jammu and Srinagar will be given smart cities. However, she was interrupted by former chief minister and National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah, who challenged her and said no smart city has been allotted to the State.
“We have been placed in competition and not selected for smart city,” he said. I am happy to announce that two smart cities Jammu and Srinagar have been sanctioned by the Centre and Rs 1 crore each has been released for preparinga detailed project report (DPR). “You donot worry we will get both the smart cities”, she told Mr Abdullah.
