NEW DELHI, July 16: The Centre has forwarded a suggestion to the State Government for giving a piece of land or a well-built apartment in Kashmir to the soldiers, who have served in the Valley.
Responding to a special mention, raised in Rajya Sabha by BJP MP Tarun Vijay, the Defence Minister Manohar Parikar today sent a reply that the issue of providing land to soldiers, who have served in Kashmir valley is a State subject and the matter has been forwarded to the State Government in Srinagar for appropriate action.

This was first of its kind a demand ever raised in Parliament and created a great deal of discussion.
Allotment of land /apartment in Kashmir valley to soldiers who have served a minimum of three years in the Valley, is a State subject to be dealt with by Government of J & K as per their Policy/Rules. The matter has been forwarded to the State Government for appropriate action, the reply of Defence Minister said.
