HYDERABAD, Dec 15: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said here that Central laws / Acts are automatically applicable to the two newly created Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and the necessary notifications whenever required are being issued one after the other.
Speaking at an exclusive J&K event, under the aegis of JK Now and Indian School of Business (ISB) here, Dr Jitendra Singh said, certain fringe elements are trying to create confusion for vested interests by planting dis-information in the media that certain laws or Acts will not be applicable or applicable only in truncated form. The elements spreading such disinformation are tactically supported by Congress and National Conference (NC) which have been the beneficiaries of Article 370.
In the case of States, there may be some leverage for the respective State governments, but in the case of a Union Territory, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the Union Law is applicable as it is. An example of this, he said, is that while in the case of a State, law and order and Police are a State subject but in case of a Union Territory these fall in the domain of Union Home Ministry.
Making it very clear that Article 370 is gone and gone forever, as a whole and not in piecemeal, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the vested interests will have to swallow a bitter pill whether they like it or not. However, he said, it is the duty of all patriotic, nationalistic and right – thinking citizens to cooperate in smooth implementation of the same Laws and Rules which are applicable in the rest of India, particularly after the Article 370 stands abrogated and the State has been converted into Union Territory.
Later speaking to media persons, Dr Jitendra Singh categorically brushed aside report in a section of media that Article 371 is going to be implemented in Jammu & Kashmir. He said, there is nothing of that sort being contemplated at any level in the Government of India and this disinformation is being planted by those whose illegitimate interests have been adversely affected by the abrogation of Article 370. Moreover, he said, there is a basic difference between the essence and spirit of Article 370 and Article 371.
