CEC visits flood affected areas

LEH, Aug 6: The Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC, Leh, Rigzin Spalbar along with Executive Councilor for Tourism Mohd Shafi Lassu and a team of officers today visited several flood affected areas and directed concerned officers to take immediate necessary steps to save residential houses and public properties from the uneven diversions of Indus river and other streams.
While interacting with the farmers and public representatives at all the affected villages, CEC assured to provide every possible help from Council and appealed general public to come forward to help Government officials in restoration of head works and canals.
The CEC announced Rs 50,000 each for all families whose houses were completely damaged in the flood. At Choglamsar village near Zamyok house where around 270 feet of Yokyur Irrigation Khul along with Headwork was completely filled with flooded mud, CEC directed engineers of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department for earliest restoration of the canal so that farmers could harvest their crops timely.
While assessing the extent of damage in Shey village, CEC directed engineers to provide required numbers of sand bags at the vulnerable points of Indus River to stop diversion of river towards village. At Thiksay Garatong, CEC directed I&FC Department to provide required numbers of  crate wires and sand bags to prevent possible diversion of stream into residential houses.
At Phuktsay village, the visiting team came to know that 2 residential houses was completely  damaged and old Gonpa of the villages was filled with debris and around 65 kanals of agricultural land washed away. For restoration of the Phuktsay Irrigation Canal, the CEC directed engineers to provide two pipes and JCB at the earliest.
At Igoo village, all the head works, one residential house were completely washed away and 4 houses suffered partial damage. Moreover, around 50 kanals of agricultural land was found covered with debris.  In Sharnos village, the drinking water supply lines were partially damaged. In Gya-Meru valley about 30 kanals of agricultural land was completely washed away and almost all the head works and Irrigation canals got damaged.
He expressed complete satisfaction over the tireless efforts of Government officials in helping flood affected villagers.
