LEH, May 19: The Chief Executive Councilor, Dorjey Motup today submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi highlighting some important demands pertaining to Leh district. The Prime Minister was on a visit to Leh on the occasion of closing ceremony of the birth centenary of 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche and foundation laying of Zojila tunnel.
The demands highlighted in the memorandum included establishment of National Institute of Sowa Rigpa in Leh, granting of special package for upgrading and streamlining of water supply schemes in Leh district, exemption of CGST and SGST taxes for the Schedule Tribes living in Ladakh region, opening of Central University and Medical/Engineering College in Leh and regularisation of (37) Gonpa School teachers serving on contractual basis from past over six years.
In the memorandum, CEC has urged for Prime Minister’s Office intervention in issuing permission to the nomads residing in border areas of Leh district to take their animals for on traditional pasture lands being restricted by Indian Army. He has also demanded inclusion of the Air Field in Nubra in the 3rd phase under UDAAN that will usher a new era of development of tourism industry in Nubra Valley.
