KARGIL, June 12: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan launched the ‘Ek Prithvi’ Ladakh chapter, of World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF-India) at Tourist Facilitation Centre here today.
The launch and training programme has been initiated by WWF- India in collaboration with the Department of School Education, Kashmir.
The programme has been initiated to build a generation of conservation leaders by raising awareness about their environment, engaging them in action for conservation and building positive attitudes towards a sustainable lifestyle.
A joint partnership between WWF-India and Herbal Garden Scheme, the programme will involve 11 Government Higher Secondary Schools of Ladakh Region.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEC emphasized on the importance of starting effective programmes like ‘Ek Prithvi’ and Herbal Gardens in Ladakh region which he said will go a long way in bringing effective awareness about environment and wildlife conservation issues among different stakeholders.
The CEC said that Ladakh region has undergone a great deal of climate change over the years and it is essential to build awareness among students, youth and citizens to devise ways and means to lessen the factors leading to the undesirable change.
He assured all possible support from the Hill Council Kargil in carrying out various WWF-India initiatives in the district.
Meanwhile, a compact user-friendly publication on birds of Jammu and Kashmir was also launched by the CEC on the occasion .The publication has been designed to raise awareness among students and citizens about the various birds of the state.
