CDS reviews security situation in Kashmir

Briefed on anti-militancy ops

Srinagar, Feb 2: Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan today visited the Line of Control (LoC) and hinterland formations of Army in Kashmir where he was briefed about the security situation.
The CDS accompanied by Northern Army Commander, Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi and Chinar Corps Commander Lt General Amardeep Singh visited the troops deployed along the LoC in North Kashmir to review their operational preparedness.
He interacted with the troops deployed along the snow bound LoC in North Kashmir. The army officers on the ground gave a detailed presentation to the visiting CDS about the situation along the LoC.
The CDS was briefed about the launch pads that are inside the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) near the LoC where scores of militants are waiting for the infiltration. He was told that despite snowfall the Army along the LoC is on high alert to counter any such attempts by the militants.
He was briefed about the possible infiltration routes and mechanism put in place to foil infiltration attempts. The CDS was told that the Counter-Infiltration Grid along the LoC has been further strengthened as militants are desperate to infiltrate.
He was told that despite snowfall the troops deployed along the LoC are conducting regular patrols.
The CDS was briefed at the Chinar Corps Headquarters about the successes achieved by the troops in the hinterland during the anti-militancy operations. He was also given detailed presentation about the programmes conducted by the Army for the civilian population as part of solider-citizen connect.
The CDS commended the Chinar warriors for their professionalism.
He was also briefed about the trans-LoC drug trafficking which has become a new way of funding militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.  He was told that the Army is on alert to foil any such attempts.
