Srinagar, May 18: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch J&K today filed a charge sheet against a former In-charge Superintendent Engineer of the erstwhile J&K State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) for allegedly manipulating his date of birth in official service records to obtain undue service benefits.

According to a statement issued by the Crime Branch, the charge sheet was submitted before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar in connection with FIR No. 09/2015 registered under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
The accused, who has since retired from service, was booked following a written complaint alleging tampering with his date of birth in official records while serving in the corporation.
The Crime Branch said that an investigation was initiated by the then Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir, now functioning as the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir.
During the probe, investigators found that the accused had allegedly altered his date of birth from October 28, 1955 to October 28, 1958 in service documents with the intention of securing “undue service benefits”.
“The manipulation was confirmed through verification reports received from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) Srinagar and the J&K Board of School Education (BOSE),” the statement said.
The agency further alleged that the accused destroyed his original service book in an attempt to conceal evidence related to the forgery, leading investigators to invoke Section 201 RPC, which pertains to causing disappearance of evidence.
The Crime Branch said that the investigation established the allegations against the former officer, following which the chargesheet was presented before the court for judicial determination.
The EOW also appealed to the public to remain vigilant against economic offences and fraud, urging citizens to report such incidents directly to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir, Crime Branch J&K.
