CBK chargesheets two in service extension fraud

SRINAGAR, June 7: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against two residents of Bandipora for allegedly using forged certificates to manipulate their dates of birth and secure unlawful extensions in service, the agency said today.
As per a statement issued here, the chargesheet in FIR No. 05/2026 was filed before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Sumbal, under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code.
The accused were identified as Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, son of Mohammad Jawad Bhat, and Assadullah Bhat, son of Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Rakhi Shilwat in Sumbal area of Bandipora district.
According to the Crime Branch, the investigation found that the accused had allegedly concealed their educational qualifications and falsely claimed to be illiterate to obtain altered dates of birth through fraudulent certificates.
“These manipulated records were incorporated into their service documents, resulting in incorrect service records and unlawful extension of service tenure.”
The Crime Branch further alleged that the accused derived undue financial benefits from the fraud, causing losses to the state exchequer.
Following completion of the investigation, the chargesheet was presented before the court for judicial proceedings, the statement added.
