LUCKNOW, May 18:
Questioning the CBI’s slow probe in ‘Coalgate’, the Bharatiya Janata Party today said the agency may be a ‘caged parrot’ for the Congress but for others it is a ‘vulture’.
‘The apex court had aptly dubbed central bureau of investigation as a ‘parrot’ but it is a parrot for the Congress only,’ BJP national general secretary Ananth Kumar told reporters here.
Criticising the CBI’s slow probe in ‘coalgate,’ he questioned why no arrests were made in this case while prompt action was taken in railway bribe case.
Mr Kumar alleged that prime minister Manmohan Singh was directly involved in the scam and an impartial probe was not possible without his resignation.
He said the BJP would protest against the UPA’s rampant corruption, inflation and insecurity among the people. ‘In the first phase,’jail bharo’ agitation will take place from May 27 to June 2,’ he said.
Describing CBI as a shield of the PM, the senior BJP leader said had the probe agency been autonomous, it would have quizzed Dr Singh by now.’ No senior officer or former or present coal minister was taken to task so far even as speedy action took place in bribe case involving former railway minister Pawan Bansal,’ he pointed out.
Mr Kumar said that if the coal allotments were cancelled then it signified that the government prima facie accepted irregularities in the process. Also the coal portfolio remained with the prime minister for a considerable time, he added.
Blaming Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the prime minister for corruption and inflation, Mr Kumar said from commonwealth games corruption to ‘coalgate’, the revelations were not made by the opposition but by the constitutional authorities like CAG and the Supreme Court.’In view of this stern action should be taken against the guilty,’ he said.
Castigating the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and Bahujan Samaj Party, the BJP general secretary said these parties were a ‘mask’ of the Congress.
The prevailing problems of the country would be discussed threadbare in the party’s national executive scheduled to be held in Goa and would also be raised in the monsoon session of Parliament. (UNI)
